SUMMER TERM
Summer Term Curriculum Map
Friday 2nd May 2025 - Gymnastics
We have been enjoying Gymnastics this half term. This week we have been learning how to do a counter balance and use counter tension when working with a partner. We then used these in a sequence, along with different rolls (teddy bear and forward rolls etc...) that we went over last week. We were focusing on using strong body tension in order to hold the counter balance or counter tension for 5 seconds.
Tuesday 29th April 2025 - Priest Visit
Today we were lucky to host Matt and Mollie from Bay Church, who led assemblies for all the children. They taught us about the true meaning of Easter, Jesus's death and resurrection, and his Ascension into Heaven. They also discussed the Good News that Jesus and his disciples spread about how to live and talked about the word of God being like a light that shines to light the way for all, and we shouldn't hide the light. The children enjoyed sharing their 'good news' with Matt and Mollie, listening to their stories and watching the video and we look forward to them joining us again soon.
SPRING TERM
Spring Term Curriculum Map
Monday 31st March - Taekwondo
Today we were really lucky to have Richard Kelly in from MF martial arts, teaching the children some basic taekwondo skills. They all joined and really enjoyed the session! Look out for the flyer that will be sent home with your child today with more information.
March 2025 - Computing
As part of our Online Safety learning, we have been looking at Online Reputation and Online Bullying. We have learnt the importance of having a positive online reputation as this may effect our future lives and employment. We know that we need to treat everyone online as we would face to face - we know that any comments or uploads made stay online for a very long time and that anyone can see them if our privacy settings are not set to friends and family only, If we have any worries about anything we put online, we know that we need to tell our trusted adults straight away.
Tuesday 18th March 2025 - Let's Dance Showcase
Our Year 5 and 6 Dance Club performed outstandingly at the Let's Dance Showcase at South Dartmoor Community College this afternoon and evening. It was a long day involving an afternoon of watching other schools perform, as well as having a rehearsal ourselves on the stage. We then performed in two shows over the course of the evening (and managed to practise in one of the classrooms as well). As a group, we decided on the Addams Family theme tune and so were dressed as Wednesday and Pugsley Addams. We all really enjoyed practising and performing this dance and hope everyone who came to watch us enjoyed it too.
Rehearsal in a classroom

Friday 14th March 2025- Spanish (Espanol)
Year 6 have been working really hard on their Spanish PowerPoint presentations about their VACACIONES (HOLIDAYS) iQué fantastico!
They have been learning the verb "ir" in Spanish and we have learnt a short rap to try to remember it!
voy= I am going
vas= You are going
va= He/she is going
vamos=we are going
vais= you (adult) are going
van=They are going
They have included places in the town, items you take on holiday (en mi maleta) and countries in their PowerPoint presentations.
Year 6 are looking forward to showing their presentations in class.
iMaravilloso!
Tuesday 11th March 2025 – Science Week - Visit to the EPIC Centre
This week has been Science week, so today we went to the EPIC science centre. Some of the people who work there spoke to us about the kind of things they do. They have a catchphrase, which is 'Solving the world's most complex problems'. We found out about some of the business that are in the building, such as, Nanusens, Queensgate Prior, OLM, Bay Photonics and Superb Media.
We were split into three groups to complete our tasks.
One of the tasks was about Mapping intelligence. We look at how maps had changed over time. Also, that satellite maps, use planes to fly over and collect the images. Next, we were asked if anyone had heard of intelligent maps. This is when information about the area is put onto a map. We looked at our local area and you could see how noisy your house is and how many people live in the area. We were told that some of this information comes from the census. We knew from the map that 14.9% of the local area are in education.
Another task was answering scientific questions about space, what the air is made up of and the chemical symbols for oxygen and other elements. There was a prize for the most correct.
For the third task we were able to go into the studios where they stream the TikTok shop live streams. We all had a go at sitting in the chair and trying to sell something and were shown some of the very expensive equipment they used. We were also shown a podcast studio, a lab (with some extremely expensive machines and microscopes) and the work pods.
Friday 7th March 2025 - Dance
This half term, we are learning a dance inspired by the song 'Getcha Head in the Game' from High School Musical. In the film, the characters dance with basketballs, but we are just imagining we have basketballs in our dance. Mrs Tyson has taught us the first part of the dance and then this week, we have created a duet to the next 16 beats. We had to listen carefully to the music to ensure that our steps fit with those 16 beats. Next week, we will be joining another pair to make a quartet to choreograph the next 16 beats.
Thursday 13th March 2024 - Caving - Reach Outdoors
Hawks had an amazing time exploring the caves at Pridhamsleigh Cavern, Ashburton with Reach Outdoors. They showed great teamwork and resilience as they crawled, climbed and slid their way through the cave whilst getting extremely muddy!
Thursday 6th March 2025 – World Book Day
Today has been World Book Day. We had a World Book Day recorded assembly and when this finished, we teamed up with a Year 2 class to share books with them. Later in the morning we took part in the BBC Live lesson, where they got us thinking about how and why we read. Next, we created designs for the ‘design a nation book token competition’.
Friday 28th February 2025 - PE

We will explore the components of fitness through a range of activities and challenges, linking these to the different sports the children participate in. Children will be completing a 2 minute skipping challenge and get practicing ready for National skipping day on the 28th March!
Monday 24th February 2025 - Music
Today, Sonopera’s Kip Pratt and Elfyn Jones visited White Rock to perform some music. Their performance showcased a diverse range of instruments - piano, violin, ukulele, and drums - and musical styles from Ireland and Eastern Europe. We started by singing a song about the months to warm up our voices, followed by learning a song called “Step Back Baby!”. We had lots of fun putting some actions to the words and working together to find the beat of the music.
Friday 7th February 2025 - Home Learning - Safer Internet Day
For Safer Internet day, which is on Tuesday 11th February this year, we would like you to learn the song ‘Who do you share your details with?’. The whole school will sing this together in the Safter Internet Day assembly on this day. The video and a copy of the lyrics are below. You have also been given a paper copy of the lyrics.
'Who do you share your details with'.mp4

February 2025 - Computing
In Computing, we have been looking at how we can design our own website. We are making our websites all about animals which links to our Writing where we are producing a non-chronological report about our favourite animal. We have explored a variety of websites to see how they are effective and have started to design the home page of our website. We will soon be adding web pages through the use of hyperlinks.
Tuesday 4th February 2025 – Reading Roundabout
We took part in a reading roundabout. Jade, who works at the Devon Library service, brought in some books to share with us. She picked six different genres: Imaginary worlds, Animals, Realistic stories, Funny, Fascinating Facts, plus Adventure and Mystery. We got a chance to look through the books and see which ones we would like to add to our library.
Jade asked us some questions about how we pick books and how we might find new books to read. We discussed flicking through the book, reading the blurb, reading the first page - where the author is trying to bring you into the story. We also thought that being familiar with the author also helps when picking a text.
Here we are looking at our books and filling in the ‘Reading Roundabout’. leaflets.
Friday 31st January 2025 – Art
This term we are looking at the artist Henry Moore. As part of our learning, we are looking at his sculptures. We have noticed how he is inspired by people and a lot of his artwork was inspired by the way we move and emotions. We have completed some sketched in our learning books and thought about the shapes and movements our bodies make during different activities.
Friday 24th January 2025-Spanish
This week in Spanish Year 6 were re-capping places in the town in Spanish. We finished off our Spanish PowerPoint presentations which we are really excited to show case over the next few weeks in class. iQué fantástico!

libreria= book shop
carnicerÌa= butchers
farmacia = chemist
fruteria= fruit shop/green grocers

- NEVER share any personal details (details that are personal to you and only those people who you trust know them) online in any capacity e.g. gaming, mobile phones, emails, iPads etc.
- Only post photos of yourself which you would like people who you trust to see and only those where you feel comfortable.
- NEVER share photos or information belonging to anyone else without their permission.
- If you feel uncomfortable or in danger at any time then tell a trusted adult, including the police on 999 or Childline on 0800 1111.
Wednesday 11th September – Writing
This week we have started our new writing journey. This is based on the book, ‘101 things to do to become a superhero… or and evil genius.’ We have given our first impressions, after looking at the front cover and reading the introduction and blurb. When looking a some of the pages, from the book, we discussed as a class the features we could see. We’ll be using this information to write our own ‘How to …’ guide at the end of the journey.
Accelerated Reader – Bookfinder
This link will help you find out what the reading range of your book is. This is really helpful if you want to read a book from home.
Year 6 Class Reader – Autumn Term

They are swiftly confiscated by his aunt and uncle.
Then, on Harry’s eleventh birthday, a strange man bursts in with some important news: Harry Potter is a wizard and has been awarded a place to study at Hogwarts.
And so the first of the Harry Potter adventures is set to begin.
