'Inspiring Learning Together'

White Rock Primary School

Starting School 2019

The time is fast approaching for your child to take their  next step on their learning journey and join our Early Years at White Rock Primary School. This is an exciting time for both your child and yourself and we recognise the importance of children’s first experiences of school being positive ones.

The Early Years Team will a partnership of support parents and carers to ensure your child’s start in their Reception class is a positive and pleasurable experience to give them the very best of starts to their journey with us.

This year the arrangements are that all children will start

full time from Wednesday 4th September.

We have an experienced team who are skilled in supporting our youngest learners in this huge step of joining ‘big school’ and are looking forward to an exciting and positive start to the term and their school journey!

Whilst this will suit the majority of our children, you as parents and families are obviously the people who know your child best. If you have any concerns at all about your child starting full time, please speak to a member of the team at the taster sessions. We are keen to personalise the transition to meet the needs of all of our individual children and families.

Please open the below document to view our Welcome Pack for the 2019-2020 intake. It includes all kinds of important information such as Uniform, Term Dates and School dinners. Remember you can find most information on our website, but if there is anything you are unsure of please don't hesitate to contact us.

It is almost time for your child to start the next step in their learning journey, the transition to primary school. This is an exciting milestone for children and their families and we at White Rock want to ensure that it is a positive and collaborative experience for all involved.

With this in mind we have a comprehensive induction process to ensure our children get the very best start to their school journey. We hope these meetings and visits will also help parents and carers feel fully involved at this very exciting time.

Parent and Carers Welcome Meeting

It is desirable that ALL parents attend this session.

Tuesday 21st May 6:30pm-7:30pm

This meeting is for parents and carers only, and it is an opportunity for us to share with you the principles underpinning our Early Years practice and provision.

It is also a chance for you to ask any initial questions you may have.

We will ask all parents and carers to sign up for an ‘in-school taster session’ that they will attend with their child.

There will also be the opportunity to request a Home Visit should you wish to do so. It is NOT an expectation that all parents and carers will want a Home Visit, this is entirely optional.

Parents and carers will also be able to confirm which of the ‘In-school taster sessions’ WITHOUT parents they would like their child to come to.

At this meeting we will distribute the Welcome Packs containing all forms and documents required prior to your child starting school as well as some vital information about school life.

In-school taster session WITH parents

Tuesday 11th June

9:30am-10:30am or

Thursday 13th June

9:30am-10:30am or

We want the first experience of the school environment for your child to be something they share with you, their family. Therefore, we have arranged for these parent/carer and child sessions to be the very first part of the children’s Induction Programme

This is an essential part of the induction process as it is important for both you and your child to have the chance to explore the learning environment, meet the team and share information about your child.

In class visit WITHOUT parents and carers

Thursday 4th July

Children visit the classroom along with their class mates and the staff who will be working with them to experience ‘coming to school’ in advance of September.

This is also an ESSENTIAL part of the induction process as it is the start of your child’s independence and building their confidence within the classroom.

Home visits

Monday 8th July

Monday 15th July

These are entirely optional and there is no requirement to sign up for a Home Visit.

At the Parents and Carers Meeting, you will be able to sign up for a half hour time slot on one of these dates.

A member of the Early Years Team will then visit you at home to meet you and your child and get to know them them before they start school.

We hope this gives you a clear overview of what we have planned over the next few months as we approach your child’s entry into school.

If you have any queries or questions, please feel free to contact the school office on (01803) 577940 or email our Early Years Key Stage Leader, Mrs Nicky Howard on

The Early Years Team look forward to meeting you, getting to know you and your child and enjoying a positive and productive relationship that will last during their time here at White Rock.
