Robins are cheerful and friendly birds, well known for their distinctive colouring and beautiful song. These colourful characters are lively and outgoing, and will brighten anyone's day. Although small in stature, they are daring and adventurous, and use their inquisitive nature to innovate and solve problems. As young members of the year 3/4 team, Robins use these skills to work together harmoniously and set their sights high and soaring in the sky.

Summer Term Curriculum Map
Tuesday 29th April 2025 - Priest Visit
Today we were lucky to host Matt and Mollie from Bay Church, who led assemblies for all the children. They taught us about the true meaning of Easter, Jesus's death and resurrection, and his Ascension into Heaven. They also discussed the Good News that Jesus and his disciples spread about how to live and talked about the word of God being like a light that shines to light the way for all, and we shouldn't hide the light. The children enjoyed sharing their 'good news' with Matt and Mollie, listening to their stories and watching the video and we look forward to them joining us again soon.

Friday 25th April 2025 - Pantomime Trip
Year 2 and 3 had a wonderful trip to Beverley Park today, where we enjoyed a live performance of the pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk. In Year 3, we will be using this trip to inspire our new writing topic on fairy tales. At the end of the half term, we will be rewriting the story and creating our own alternative ending.
Wednesday 20th April 2025 - Computing
This half term, we are using Scratch 3 for the very first time! We are using Scratch to create a programme involving sequencing sound. We can't wait to perform our dances to our grown ups next week.

Children have improved their knowledge of the rules of the game and have been umpiring their own games. Well done year 3!
Tuesday 18th March 2025- Science- Soil
This week in Science, we learnt about the different types of soil. We used our observational skills to look closely at peat soil and added water to this to see what it was made from. We found out that peat soil is made from organic matter, including dead plants and animals, and that these rot away to make nutrient rich soil. Look at our investigation below...
Friday 14th March 2025 - PaddleBoat Theatre Company
Today we had a special performance of 'The Elves and the Shoemaker' from PaddleBoat Theatre Company. The performance was about three elves hidden inside a shoemakers shop, where they sneak into the workshop at night. There were moments of interaction where we could join in as well. We loved it!
Thursday 6th March 2025 - World Book Day
We have had an amazing day in Year 3 with our fantastic costumes! This morning we had a catwalk where we showed off our costumes from some of our favourite books. The day was full of book-themed activities including making bookmarks, creating our own National Book Token gift card for a nationwide competition, listening to our class story, reading our own books, and attending an online live lesson. We also had the opportunity to do a book swap, where we read to our peers in Reception. Take a look at our fun-filled day below:
March 2025 - Computing
This half term, we have been learning how to create a Stop Frame Animation. We have learnt that an animation is a series of photographs - or frames - put together really quickly to show the illusion that the subject is moving. We practised first by drawing stick men and making the arm look like it was waving. We did this by using a motion app and ensuring that the onion skinning was on - onion skinning is where a subject is captured and a shadow is left behind. This helps us to know where to move the subject to next. then, as Yr3 are learning all about The Romans in History, we created a Stop Frame Animation about the Romans! The end results were amazing! Well done everyone.
Tuesday 4th March - PE
Today we had Niall Leahy at White Rock for a Cricket engagement day. Niall and our year 6 sports captains led a variety of activities to support year 3 with the basic bowling, batting and throwing and catching skills used in cricket. This was a fantastic opportunity and the children enjoyed working together, playing games and using different equipment.
Monday 24th February 2025 - Music
Today, Sonopera’s Kip Pratt and Elfyn Jones visited White Rock to perform some music. Their performance showcased a diverse range of instruments - piano, violin, ukulele, and drums - and musical styles from Ireland and Eastern Europe. We started by singing a song about the months to warm up our voices, followed by learning a song called “Step Back Baby!”. We had lots of fun putting some actions to the words and working together to find the beat of the music. Have a look below at some pictures from the performance:

Children have played small sided games reinforcing both attacking and defending skills, as well as introducing the three step and dribbling rules.
Tuesday 21st January 2025 – Design and Technology
In our Design and Technology lesson this week, we used our Science learning of food groups to design and make our own healthy wraps. We chose and chopped up our ingredients and then we had the important job of taste testing them! Afterwards, we evaluated our wraps discussing what we liked about them and what we would change next time. Take a look at our creations below!
January 2025 - Computing
This half term, Yr3 are focusing on the Education for a Connected World document produced by the Government. As the world of technology is constantly changing, so are the perimeters of online safety and there a now many areas which need covering. The section we are focusing on at the moment is Managing Online Information. We have learnt all about search engines and how these are used to search for information on the internet. We know the child friendly search engines we should be using to keep us safe and know that only key words need to be used (typed or spoken) to reduce the amount of information provided. We have also learnt what autocomplete is and how the internet can be used to buy and sell items online.

We have had a busy first week back after the holidays in Year 3! We have started lots of new learning around this term's theme 'around the world in 80 days'.

Within the dance there was a part where we could make up our own moves with a partner, which we loved! We all had such a fun afternoon and wish all of Year 3 could have come along with us!

This half term, we have been learning all about digital devices. We have learnt that a digital device can store, process and send digital information. We have also learnt what an input is - data or instructions that are entered into a computer programme to make it run - and what an output is - information that is displayed. We have identified many input and output devices in school and in our community - such as crossing lights and crossing buttons - and we have invented our own digital devices with an input and output.

Our unit in Science at the moment is Animals including Humans. During this week in Science, we looked at labelling the human skeleton. In our groups we drew around one of our bodies and then as a team we labelled where the different bones are. As part of this learning, we have also learnt how to change the font, colour and size of text. Some examples of this can be seen below.

Today we have been lucky enough to have some African dancers in our assembly. They explained to us that they come from West Africa - a place called The Ivory Coast. They played their drum and danced as we clapped along. They also did some call and response, where we did some calling back and added actions.
Thursday 3rd October 2024 - Writing
We started looking at a new text in Writing this week called 'Ask Dr. K. Fisher About Animals'. The book is about animals who have embarrassing problems, so they write letters to Dr. K. Fisher asking for advice! To help us with our learning, we did some roleplay with our learning partner to immerse ourselves in the book. We each had a turn pretending to be Dr. K. Fisher and an animal with an embarrassing problem. First, we thought about a giraffe who believed they were too tall, and we thought of lots of problems they might have, including not being able to see their smaller friends! Then we swapped over, and we had a go at thinking about a crocodile whose tail was too spiky. We came up with lots of advice we could give him as Dr. K. Fisher. Have a look at our photos below.
Friday 27th September 2024 - History
This week in History, we have begun our topic on Pre-History - The Stone Age, The Bronze Age and The Iron Age. We first discovered that The Stone Age began nearly 2.5 million years ago and lasted for such a long time, it can be split into three eras itself - Paleolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic! Did you know that it's called Pre-History because 'pre' means before and 'history' means the written record of human events? This is why there's only cave paintings and tools from this time! In our lesson, we looked at where Prehistoric Britain fits on a chronological timeline. Have a look at our photos below.
Friday 20th September 2024-Spanish
