Cranes are opportunistic birds that change their diet according to the season. Cranes class demonstrate this when they adapt their learning skills to different topics. Cranes are kind and helpful to others and bring teamwork into all aspects of our school day. However, they can be solitary at times, using independence and resilience when faced with certain challenges.

Today in Year 2 we had a visit from 'Above Water' an educational charity that teaches children about staying safe in the water. We learnt what lifeguards have to do when someone is in danger in the water and how to keep ourselves safe. We tried on a lifeguards uniform and even saved someone from drowning! Our instructor told us by lying on our backs in the water, even if we can't swim, will prevent us from drowning. We also learnt how to make a big motion with our arms to get the attention of an adult if we feel unsafe in the water.
Our instructor told us that we are allowed to ask our parents/guardians to put their phones down when we are in any type of water, even the bath. 7 children died last year due to parents/carers being on their phones whilst a child was in water. Have a look below at all the important and fun learning we did today!

Adaptations 11/03/19
In order to explain how birds have adapted to the environment that they live in, we have been learning about the types of food they eat. We looked at the different shapes of beaks that birds have and then thought about how they picked up their food. We discovered that some birds found it easier to pick up worms and some beaks were better suited to eating seeds.

Cranes Visit Longleat! 1/3/19
Cranes left bright and early on Friday morning to visit Longleat and what a fantastic day it was! We had a coach ride full of good spirits and excitement made even better by the fact we got to watch Despicable me! When we first arrived at Longleat, we jumped straight on the boats and witness the sea-lions being fed! They were jumping out of the water and making such a loud sound. Then we got to look round all the animal exhibits! We loved seeing the crocodiles up close and personal. Then we went in the house and saw the amazing ceilings and paintings on the wall. We even got to see the chair that the queen sat on the last time she came to dinner. At the end of a long day, we then went and viewed the safari park we got to see lions, tigers and wolves up close and some even followed our bus!
Around the park we had lots of comments about our behaviour with visitors noticing how well we represented the school. I would like to thank each and every Crane for making this day such a special one and the amazing way you conducted yourselves at all times. It was an absolute pleasure to take your there!

Monday 11th February - Blubber glove!
As part of our Science learning we have been looking at living things and their habitats. We wanted to investigate how animals in the Arctic survive the extreme temperatures so we made our own 'blubber glove'. We learned that this layer of fat acts as an insulator to keep the heat in! Have a look at our learning below!

Monday 21.1.19 - The Queen comes to visit
Today, we had a very special visitor in our school! We all stood for her entrance and hummed along to the national anthem. We asked her some questions and found out that she does not travel in a taxi but in a royal carriage! We also found out that the Queen has two Dorgis which go with her to every house she lives in (which is quite a few!). She also brought in bag which weighed 4kg so we could feel how heavy her Coronation crown was!
