WELCOME TO YEAR 1 BRAMBLINGS

The Brambling can be found most commonly in the British Isles during the cold winter months, the rest of the year it explores other regions of the world. They travel in large groups (usually in the thousands!) and we will take this characteristic of this bird and use it in our classroom to ensure that there is a sense of teamwork to encourage all children to work together and support each other in their learning journey!

PE AND DANCE DAYS

PE/Dance Days are Monday and Thursday each week. Please ensure that your child has the correct kit in school all week. We will ensure that they are sent home at the end of every half term.

HOME LEARNING DAYS

Phonics Home Learning will be handed out on a Friday along with Maths Home Learning. Books will be collected in on a Wednesday. This will give you the opportunity to explore the sounds that your child is learning each week and give them a chance to play some exciting Maths games linked to the learning that they are completing in school.

Wednesday 22nd October 2025 - Science 

In Science we have been exploring the 5 senses. Today we completed an   experiment using  popcorn to observe how many senses we could experience when making the popcorn. First we explored our predictions of what would happen during our experiment. Then we used our senses to see, smell and hear the popcorn as it was popping in the microwave. We then got to touch and taste the popcorn.

Thursday 16th October 2025 - Dance

We have been learning different ways of walking in our Dance lessons. This week we were walking like different Mr Men - can you spot Mr Strong or Mr Small? We have also started to learn different ways of jumping and next week we are going to link all our learning together into a short sequence.

Monday 6th October 2025 - PE 

This half term year 1 have been practising their fundamental skills. We have been focusing on moving safely within a space and have been travelling in different ways, in different directions and at different speeds. 

Friday 3rd October 2025 - Music

This week in Music we have been learning about Tempo! Tempo is how fast or slow a piece of music is. We listened to the song 'I have a chicken' and used our musical instruments to play along with the changing tempo. Take a look below!

Friday 29th September 2025 - Writing

This week in Writing we have been thinking all about what we have been learning about capital letters and full stops! We have also learned about parts of a sentence and created some sentences about what we like to do. Take a look at our creations below!

Friday 19th September 2025 - Settling in to Year 1
