Accelerated Reader at White Rock
What is Accelerated Reader?
Accelerated reader is a computer programme which monitors and tracks your child's independent reading. A baseline STAR reading test provides the level of book your child will select.
Your child then reads their book at least two times and then takes a short comprehension quiz once they feel they know the book well enough.
Once they take the quiz they will receive a % score to show how well they have understood the book. We are aiming for 80% and above for each quiz to show that your child has really understood that book. Children who score lower than that have a 1:1 conferencing session with their class teacher to discuss the book.
Information for parents
Below is a parent information sheet which gives further details about the Accelerated Reader programme.
Once your child is onto the AR programme, your child's teacher will send you a parent information letter with a log in to receive your child's quiz results.

My child has been given a ZPD what does this mean?
