Leaver's Assembly Songs

For your homework for the next 3 weeks, we would like you to learn songs for the leavers assembly. We will be practising these in school as well but it would be great if you could learn the words as thoroughly as possible. Happy singing!

Wednesday 20th July - Cricket trip to Somerset

Today, 30 children in Year 5 and 6 visited Somerset Cricket Club to watch a match between Somerset and Yorkshire. All the children enjoyed watching the cricket, completing the activity book and getting autographs from some of the players. Have a look at some of our photos below!

Friday 10th June - Climate Change Speeches

In Year 6, we prepared persuasive speeches to discuss how Torbay could positively impact climate change. We selected our favourite speeches from each class who then took part in a final debate. We spoke confidently, factually and persuasively to deliver our speeches.

Children's Parliament Resources

Below are some resources for you to use over the next week to help you with your research.

Jubilee celebration song - updated

Monday 23rd May - History Visitor

This Monday, we were lucky to have a visit from the chairman of the Torbay Civic Society. He came in to speak to us about the key historical local figure of Agatha Christie. We learned lots about her life and the key physical sites around Torbay and South Devon!

Thursday 19th May - South Devon College Skills Build Day.

Year 6 were invited to join a skills build day at South Devon College. We took part in masonry, painting and decorating, carpentry and many more hands-on activities!

Science - 27.04.22

In Science today, we witnessed how water can act like a lense. We carried out an experiment to see that the direction of an arrow (which we had drawn on a whiteboard) switches and we could make the arrow larger or smaller based on how far away the glass was from the whiteboard.

Music - cornet playing 04th April 2022

In our music this half term, we have been learning to play the cornet! Check out our use of rhythm to play and march in formation like our own Eagles brass band!

Friday 18th March 2022 - Red Nose Day!

Have a look at the fun activities we took part in to help raise money for Comic Relief!

Friday 11th March 2022

In our Science this week, we investigated how light only travels in straight lines from a light source. When a light source hits an opaque object, a shadow is formed. Here we are recording data to show how a shadow's size changes in relation to how far away the light source is and the distance between the opaque object and the surface the shadow is cast upon.

Fun with shadows

Thursday 3rd March - World Book Day

As part of our World Book Day learning, children dressed up as their favourite book characters. We were lucky enough to spend some time with Year 3 and Year 2 children to share our books together. We really enjoyed it!

31.01.21 - Science

Continuing with our Science learning this term about inheritance and evolution, we investigated how DNA is found within living things. DNA is essentially a code which informs how a living this is made up. It can determine inherited characteristics from a living thing's parents including eye colour, hair colour, height or skin colour to name a few. In this lesson, we were able to extract DNA from bananas!

24.01.22 - art

In our art lesson today, we reproduced pictures of flowering plants in the style of Matisse. We used primary colours and our knowledge of watercolours to reproduce some beautiful artwork!

11.01.2022 - Harry Potter Day

As part of our writing journey, we immersed ourselves in all things Harry Potter. We made drinkable potions, deciphered hidden messages, sculpted mythical creatures, made witches hats and got stuck in with exploring our inspiration text! Take a look at some pictures of our day!

05.01.2022 - Science

In Science this week, we began to look at adaptations in desert animals, such as camels. We thought carefully about how different adaptations help camels survive, such as wide feet to help it from sinking in the sand. We also learned that camels have a fat store in their humps and they can convert this to energy when they are hungry! What amazing creatures!

Autumn Term Learning - Free to be me.

W/C: 06.12.21 Computing

In computing this week, Mrs Broderick taught us how to read and write numbers in binary code. Binary code is how computers talk and represent information. It may seem random to us but binary code is based on a base-two number system which means binary code uses only two numbers, “0” and “1”. Here we are having a go at solving codes using binary to represent numbers!

W/C 29.11.21 - PSHE

In PSHE this week, we discussed our understanding of legal and illegal drugs. We learned about the short term and long term affects of different drugs, including caffeine, alcohol and medicines. We also explored the different laws in place to help keep people safe.

W/C 22.11.21 - RE

In RE this week, we took some virtual tours of different types of Synagogue. We looked carefully to spot similarities and differences between reform and orthodox Synagogues. If you wanted to explore more of the virtual tours, please follow the link below!

Take a tour of Synagogues from around the world!

W/C: 15th November

This week, Year 6 were incredibly fortunate to attend the Dartmouth Academy Fun day! We took part in some really fun activities in Art and Science to experience life in secondary school! Take a look at the photos to see what we got up to!

W/C 01/11/21 - RE

In RE this week, we experienced some of the traditions within the Jewish Festival of Passover. We were able to try grape juice, matzoh, parsley and a mix of sweet fruits and honey. Each food on the Seder plate is symbolic to the Exodus from Ancient Egypt.

W/C 18.10.21 - Spanish

In Spanish this week, we learned to speak and write about our morning routine. We were able to use conjunctions to join our sentences. Check out some of our amazing writing!

W/C 11.10.21 - RE (The 10 plagues of Egypt) - Judaism

In our RE learning this week, we looked at a story from the Torah. We learned how the ancient Egyptian Pharaoh held Jewish people prisoners and treated them as slaves. Moses delivered the message that God commanded the Pharaoh let the slaves free. The Pharaoh did not listen until God sent 10 deadly plagues upon the land until finally, the Pharaoh allowed the Jews to be free...

The Ten Plagues of Egypt

Here we are acting out the Ten Plagues of Egypt - can you identify what they are?

The Ten Plagues of Egypt

Some of us got the giggles too! :D

W/C - 04.10.21 - Science - Asexual reproduction in plants, microorganisms and fungi.

Today in our Science learning, we explored how some living things reproduce asexually. This means that only parent is needed to create offspring and they create a perfect clone of themselves too keep their lifecycle going! We planned our own scientific enquiry to see asexual reproduction in action. We took cuttings of basil plants, used rooting powder to encourage root growth and potted them in nutrient-rich soil. Hopefully, we will soon see if they would grow smaller plants - proving that basil plants can reproduce asexually!

W/C 27.10.21 - Art - Armin Greder

As part of our Art learning this term, we have read the book 'The Island' by Armin Greder. Armin makes used of pastels, charcoal and coloured pencils to create distorted images of landscapes and portraits. After studying the artist and learning about his techniques, we tried to replicate his style by continuing a piece of his artwork.

W/C - 20/09/21 - Recycling Week

As part of our learning around recycling week, we were visited by Paignton Zoo who spoke to us about plastic pollution and its impact on sealife. We explored types of rubbish collected from the Bay and identified how this may have reached the sea. We looked at micro-plastics and completed some activities to help us truly appreciate the disastrous implications we will have on nature if we do not do more to fight plastic pollution!

W/C 20/09/21 - Recycling Week

W/C 27/09/21 - Coasteering

What a fantastic day we had at Fishcombe cove this week! Children pushed themselves to face new heights (literally) but scrambling up rock faces and jumping in to the Bay's beautiful waters! It was a great time had by all.

W/C Monday 6th September - PSHE

In our PSHE learning this week, we explored different types of leadership. We were able to describe the difference between democracy and dictatorship and identify different countries around the world which have these leaders. We value the importance of our democracy within The UK and even within our own school.
