WELCOME TO YEAR 6 HAWKS
Hawks are highly intelligent creatures, who strive to be committed and enthusiastic in all that they do. Their outstanding vision allows them to seek out opportunities and remain focused. They fly to great heights with speed, diving with great accuracy and precision to achieve their goals, even when facing difficulties.
THIS TERM'S THEME
'Same but different'
In Year 6, we will be focusing on friendships, citizenship and leadership. We will be exploring the Ancient Greek civilisation. As part of our science learning, we will understand how to stay heathy and the importance of diet and fitness on our body.
P.E AND DANCE DAYS
Dance for Hawks will be on Thursday and PE will be on a Friday. Please ensure your child comes to school with the correct kit, which is clearly labelled. For more information about kit requirements, please visit our 'Physical Education & School Sport' Page.
We will ensure that PE kits are sent home at the end of every half term.
HOME LEARNING DAYS
Home learning will be sent home on Fridays and should be returned to school on Wednesday. Home learning should be completed to the best standard possible and Mathletics and Times Table Rock Stars should also be completed weekly. ACADEMIC YEAR 2026/2027
AUTUMN TERM
Autumn Term Curriculum Map

Tuesday 6th October 2026 - PE
This half term year 6 have been enjoying team building activities. They have been developing their communication and teamwork skills, as well as problem solving and map reading. It has been a lot of fun!
Tuesday 22nd September 2026 - Science
This week in Science, Year 6 investigated the enquiry question: How is heart rate affected by exercise over time? The children put their bodies to the test with rounds of star jumps, measuring their heartbeats per minute after exercising for different lengths of time. They recorded and compared their results, looking for patterns in the data before writing a conclusion to explain how exercise affects the heart. It was a lively and engaging investigation that brought our learning about the circulatory system to life!
Thursday 24th September 2026 - Coasteering - Reach Outdoors
This week, Year 6 got together with Reach Outdoors. We put on our wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets and headed down to the picturesque Anstey's Cove. We were brilliant at showing our bravery and water-confidence skills. We then carried out some activities including jumping off rocks into the sea. We were all incredible - showing how supportive we can be and our positive attitudes.
Thursday 17th September 2026 - Drumba
We have started the term with Drumba in our Dance lessons and have been focusing on consistent intensity. We are all trying our hardest to perform each move with accuracy and high energy. The new rudiments we are practising in Year 6 are triple paradiddles and six stroke rolls.
Monday 7th September 2026 – English – Wonder
As we begin the new year, and a new term, our English learning – both Reading and Writing - will be based on the book 'Wonder' by R. J. Palacio.
This week, we have begun immersing ourselves in Auggie's world in the story of Wonder, which is a heart-warming novel about August Pullman, a boy with a facial difference who starts attending school for the first time. The story explores themes of kindness, empathy, friendship, and acceptance, showing how one person's courage can inspire others.
