Buzzards

WELCOME TO YEAR 1 BUZZARDS

Buzzards are beautiful, graceful and strong birds of prey. They have to find their own food by hunting, so they constantly have to learn where food can be found and how they can get it. Buzzards learn every day in the same way we do. Buzzards have fantastic looking and listening skills. These skills are as important to us in our learning as they are to Buzzards in their daily life.

PE AND DANCE DAYS

PE/Dance is on a Tuesday each week. Please ensure that your child has the correct kit in school all week. We will ensure that they are sent home at the end of every half term.

HOME LEARNING DAYS

Phonics Home Learning will be handed out on a Friday along with Maths Home Learning. Reading Books will be collected in on a Monday. This will give you the opportunity to explore the sounds that your child is learning each week and give them a chance to play some exciting Maths games linked to the learning that they are completing in school.

AUTUMN TERM

Autumn Term Curriculum Map

Tuesday 13th October 2026 - PE

This half term year 1 have been focusing on fundamental skills. We have practised travelling around in different ways, changing direction and speed safely.

Thursday 8th October 2026

Thank you to all the parents who joined us for our Phonics Workshop. We loved sharing how phonics is taught in our Year 1 classes and demonstrating how we use sounding and blending skills to read words. We would greatly appreciate it if you could take a moment to complete our feedback form using the QR code displayed outside each classroom. Thank you for your continued support and for attending our workshop.

Friday 2nd October 2026

To fully immerse ourselves in our text 'Oi Frog' we have been sequencing the story and using actions to retell the main parts. We have looked carefully at what the beginning, middle and end of the story is in preparation to write our own version.

Friday 25th September 2026

In Geography Year 1 have been looking at what physical and human features there are around the school. They then went on a field trip around the school ground to see what they could find.

Friday 18th September 2026

In Maths this week, Year 1 have been exploring finding doubles and halves of numbers to 10. We have also been looking at finding one more and one less and have even been partitioning numbers! Have a look at the photos below to see us in action.
