'Inspiring Learning Together'

White Rock Primary School

Cranes are opportunistic birds that change their diet according to the season. Cranes class demonstrate this when they adapt their learning skills to different topics. Cranes are kind and helpful to others and bring teamwork into all aspects of our school day. However, they can be solitary at times, using independence and resilience when faced with certain challenges.

This Terms Theme

'Queen Elizabeth II'

This term we will be learning all about Queen Elizabeth II. Initially, we will be focusing on the story of 'The Queen's Handbag' and looking at the journey the Queen takes around the UK. This will involve naming countries and significant places in the United Kingdom. We will also be looking at the role of our Queen and how she leads our country. We will explore the concept of leadership by making our own castles and developing our own laws and rules.

Cranes Visit Longleat! 1/3/19

Cranes left bright and early on Friday morning to visit Longleat and what a fantastic day it was! We had a coach ride full of good spirits and excitement made even better by the fact we got to watch Despicable me! When we first arrived at Longleat, we jumped straight on the boats and witness the sea-lions being fed! They were jumping out of the water and making such a loud sound. Then we got to look round all the animal exhibits! We loved seeing the crocodiles up close and personal. Then we went in the house and saw the amazing ceilings and paintings on the wall. We even got to see the chair that the queen sat on the last time she came to dinner. At the end of a long day, we then went and viewed the safari park we got to see lions, tigers and wolves up close and some even followed our bus!

Around the park we had lots of comments about our behaviour with visitors noticing how well we represented the school. I would like to thank each and every Crane for making this day such a special one and the amazing way you conducted yourselves at all times. It was an absolute pleasure to take your there!

Monday 11th February - Blubber glove!

As part of our Science learning we have been looking at living things and their habitats. We wanted to investigate how animals in the Arctic survive the extreme temperatures so we made our own 'blubber glove'. We learned that this layer of fat acts as an insulator to keep the heat in! Have a look at our learning below!

Gymnastics Spring 1 Half Term
This half term, we have been building on our Gymnastics learning from last year and been developing our rolls. This included egg rolls, log rolls, rock'n'rolls, teddy bear rolls and learning forward rolls. We learnt to do teddy bear rolls with a partner as well, which was great fun.

Monday 21.1.19 - The Queen comes to visit

Today, we had a very special visitor in our school! We all stood for her entrance and hummed along to the national anthem. We asked her some questions and found out that she does not travel in a taxi but in a royal carriage! We also found out that the Queen has two Dorgis which go with her to every house she lives in (which is quite a few!). She also brought in  bag which weighed 4kg so we could feel how heavy her Coronation crown was!

Science - Living and Non-Living 11/1/19

This week we started our new Science topic of... Animals and their Habitats. We have been deciding the differences between objects that are living and non-living. It was very interesting and threw up lots of misconceptions. We then went on a hunt to find things around our school which were living but are not alive anymore.

Science Materials -11/10/18

This week we have been using interactive QR codes to research facts about materials in our enviroment. We were able to scan the codes and this gave us a quiz that helped us find out more about materials in our enviroment.

Science Waterproof and Non-Waterproof  26/09/18

This week we have been learning about waterproof materials. We conducted an investigation to find which materials were waterproof. We found that foil and plastic were two materials that did not let water pass through them. Well done to all the children for their fabulous home learning which supported this!
