'Inspiring Learning Together'

White Rock Primary School

WELCOME TO YEAR 1 BRAMBLINGS

The Brambling can be found most commonly in the British Isles during the cold winter months, the rest of the year it explores other regions of the world. They travel in large groups (usually in the thousands!) and we will take this characteristic of this bird and use it in our classroom to ensure that there is a sense of teamwork to encourage all children to work together and support each other in their learning journey!

This Terms Theme

'THE DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PALEONTOLOGIST'

The theme for the Autumn term is 'A Day in the Life of a Paleontologist'. This will give us plenty of opportunities to learn collaboratively across classes and year groups. We will begin our learning by asking the children what they are curious to learn about. We will be learning about different dinosaurs, making fossils and exploring materials.

(For more information about this term's theme, scroll down to our curriculum map)

P.E & Dance days

P.E. Days are Thursdays and Fridays.

Please ensure that your child has the correct kit in school all week. We will ensure that they are sent home at the end of every half term

Home Learning days

Home Learning will be handed out on a Friday and collected in on a Wednesday. This will give you the opportunity to explore aspects of your child's learning if you wish.

In Science we have been learning about the body. We laid on the table to be drawn around and labelled parts of our body. We also looked at the five senses and which body parts are used for each. Which senses have you used today?

Tuesday 15th January

We have been learning how to use the mouse and keyboard to logon onto the computers and find our way around websites. We've begun using Purple Mash to create pictures and tinker with different tools. Can you log onto Purple Mash at home and create a picture? We would love to see it!

Wednesday 19th December

Today in our Phonics lesson we learnt about the split digraph 'i-e'. We wrote 'i-e' words and a sentence. We also had to match 'i-e' words up with their pictures and find real and alien 'i-e' words.

What 'i-e' words can you spot?

Wednesday 19th December

Today in Maths we  have been learning about subtraction. We created our own number stories to go with calculations.

5 - 2 = 3

Mrs Simpson had five apples, she ate two apples. How many did she have left?

Friday 14th December

Today we did our first number workout! We had to represent our number using resources from our Maths toolkit. We partitioned it, wrote calculations, found out if it was odd or even and wrote the number as a word. We will be learning about a different number each week.

Friday 14th December

Today we wrote our capital letters M, N, O and P

Wednesday 4th December

In our phonics lesson today we looked at the digraph 'oy'. We played a roll and read game where we had to roll the dice and sound talk the words form the corresponding number.

Wednesday 28th November.

Wednesday 27th September 2018

Today dinosaurs were roaming the school! Who's been in our class...was it a T-Rex? We found footprints on our carpet and used non- standard measures (cubes) to find out how long they were.

Tuesday 18th September   Dinosaur Day!

Today we were paleontologists. We went on a through a journey through time and discovered facts about dinosaurs, how long they lived on earth for and why they became extinct. We loved being scientists and excavated a range of different fossils! In the afternoon we had a visit from Sophie the Tyrannosaurus Rex and her baby sister. We were all very brave and went and said hello to her even Mrs Fenner was brave and came and said hello!

Thursday 13th September  Science - Materials

Today we looked at lots of objects and talked about the materials they were made of. We thought of adjectives to describe them :

  • hard
  • soft
  • smooth
  • shiny
  • bumpy

Can you find objects around your house and say what material they're made from?
