WHITE ROCK GETS A BRONZE CERTIFICATE!
We were very excited to receive our Bronze Eco-Schools award. In order to achieve this we met half-termly as a team to discuss what where we were and what we needed to do next. We completed an environmental review to investigate the school's environmental performance, from which we identified the three main topics we wanted to develop within our school. Our team decided to prioritize recycling, so recycling bins were put in all classrooms and general areas around the school. The Eco-committee are responsible for replacing these bins on a weekly basis. After this, we looked at our school grounds and how we can improve them, whilst supporting our community. This is where the idea of a herb garden came to light - the team planted a selection of herbs and lettuces for families to harvest and use when needed, instead of buying single-use herbs in plastic packaging. The final topic we are looking to develop is our impact on marine life. We have carried out a few beach cleans and are looking to encourage families to continue with this. Year 6 have produced some fantastic art work highlighting the impact we are having on marine life. We are now working towards our silver award and will be excited to share the news of receiving this soon!
