Extra Information for Extra Curricular Sports Clubs - Spring 2

MONDAY 3.15 - 4.30pm

Golf Club (at Torbay Golf Centre) Y3-5 (Maximum Number 12)

A six week progressive block of golf lessons delivered by Neil Holman and his team of professional coaches at TGC. Minibus transport provided by school.  Warm clothes required as club run outdoors.

Please do not apply if you have already taken part in this club in previous terms to allow the maximum amount of children to experience being able to learn golf.

This club is supported by the White Rock PE and Sport Premium funding.

TUESDAY 3.15 - 4.15

Boys Football Y5-6

This will provide training towards the selection for a Year 5 and 6 school team to play fixtures against other local schools this half term.

Full football kit needed, shin guards and football boots essential - you will not be allowed to play without them.

WEDNESDAY 3.15 - 4.15

Indoor Cricket Y1-2

Run in association with community coaches from Brixham Cricket Club held in the school hall.

This club will allow Y1&2 an introduction to the game of cricket, building the skills needed to be successful, as well as an introduction to the competitive game itself.

This club is supported by the White Rock PE and Sport Premium funding.

THURSDAY 3.15 - 4.15

Cheerleading club is open to all children in Years 3 and 4. We will be creating a series of short routines to music chosen by the children who attend. Don't worry if you have never danced or taken part in cheer leading before, this club is all about using poms to have fun and keep fit.

Although each class has a specific day for their PE and Dance lessons, it is sometimes necessary to change the timetable. This means these lessons may take place on a day when your child will not be expecting it.

It is required that each child have their kit in school for the full week.

PE kit should consist of:

  • A plain white t-shirt.
  • A pair of dark colour shorts.
  • White socks (not school tights).
  • Trainers. (Please ensure if you send your child in with laces they are able to do their own shoes up).
  • Plimsolls are acceptable, but are not ideal for outside sports due to their lack of grip.
  • Girls and boys with long hair must have this tied back away from the face.
  • Earrings must be removed or taped over for every lesson.

Dark colour tracksuits may be added to kit bags as extra kit during winter term, and may be worn if the lesson is outside – This is not instead of normal PE kit as children are expected to be in shorts for indoor PE, and all Dance lessons.

For PE clubs, children do not have to wear their PE kit, but should be appropriately dressed for the sport they will be participating in. Please read the clubs letter carefully each half term to ensure the correct kit is available (e.g. boots and shin pads for football)

Lastly, please ensure ALL PE and clubs kit is clearly named as it makes it much easier to reunite children with the correct kit!

As always, thank you for your support.

This term has seen the launch of the White Rock Golf club in a new partnership with the Torbay Golf Centre.  Under the coaching of PGA professional Neil Holman, 12 children have started Friday night lessons for a six week block.

Some pictures from a great start at lesson 1.

Tower House Triathlon

Congratulations to all the White Rock children who competed in the Triathlon organised by Tower House School.

It was a tough challenge for both age groups with everybody giving 100%.

A special mention must go to Adam Glew for winning the Tri Start event - huge congrats Adam!

Every Monday this half term, students from South Devon College have been visiting White Rock to lead some sporting activities for our pupils.  This forms part of the hands on experience they need to gain their Community Sports Leaders Award.

These students have been planning and evaluating lessons for Owls and Magpies, and have also successfully led our Year 1 and 2 multi skills club after school.

1. Bikes and helmets are being provided by the VeloPark. Your pupils can of course bring their own if they wish to. (Please make sure that they have bike locks!)

2.  Parents are very welcome to come and watch but please remind them about photography rules in the pool (Forms available form reception)

3. The weather report does not look good (showers) for Monday which is a bit sad but we will be going ahead nonetheless! Please remind your pupils to bring adequate clothing for all weather types.

There is limited shelter at the VeloPark and none at all on the field.

4. The event will be run in separate disciplines with no transition phase so participants will have time to change after swimming.

5. The event will operate on a rotation so please advise your pupils that they might not be completing the event in the usual SWIM/CYCLE/RUN order.

6. Times will be available by Monday evening (hopefully!) and can be accessed via the Tower House School website.

7. Results will also be emailed to teachers as a spreadsheet.

8. The run will be on grass so studded boots or running spikes can be worn.

9. Each discipline will be staffed by Tower House but it is advisable that an appropriate adult from each school acts as a 'chaperone' for your school during transitions.

White Rock is a part of the Brixham and Churston Sports Partnership which regularly runs festivals in sport and Outdoor Education for us to attend. Other primary schools from around the area attend and it is a fantastic opportunity for our children to build team working and social skills, developing in a holistic way. It also exposes children to sports competition in a fun and engaging way. The Children will be attending a variety of different sports events throughout the year and we will let you know when they are happening. Please ensure you child has returned the annual permission slip to their class teacher, in order that we may use this for the events.
