Physical Education & School Sport

Please find below details of our Sports Day including the proposed timetable for the day. Everyone is welcome to come along for the day but we understand that you may just want to stay for your child’s own event in the morning. We would love to see as many people as possible here in the afternoon for the Fun Events and the Relays. As always there will be a catering van onsite for food and drinks for you to enjoy.

On Sports Day please send your child into school in the appropriately coloured t-shirt according to their house teams. If you would like to purchase a new house team coloured t-shirt, you can do so from our uniform provider at www.schoolwear107.co.uk. Depending on the weather, please send your child into school with sun cream already applied and a hat for protection. ALL children require a drinks bottle.

The day is split into 2 parts- year groups competitions in the morning and house events in the afternoon (see below for approx. times). At lunchtime you are able to join your child for a picnic lunch on the field.

We look forward to seeing you on the 6th June and if you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

Although each class has a specific day for their PE and Dance lessons, it is sometimes necessary to change the timetable. This means these lessons may take place on a day when your child will not be expecting it.

It is required that each child have their kit in school for the full week.

PE kit should consist of:

  • A house coloured, White Rock logo'd t-shirt.
  • A pair of dark colour shorts.
  • White socks (not school tights).
  • Trainers. (Please ensure if you send your child in with laces they are able to do their own shoes up).
  • Plimsolls are acceptable, but are not ideal for outside sports due to their lack of grip.
  • Girls and boys with long hair must have this tied back away from the face.
  • Earrings must be removed or taped over for every lesson.

Dark colour tracksuits may be added to kit bags as extra kit during winter term, and may be worn if the lesson is outside. This is not instead of normal PE kit as children are expected to be in shorts for indoor PE, and all Dance lessons.

For PE clubs, children do not have to wear their PE kit, but should be appropriately dressed for the sport they will be participating in. Please read the clubs letter carefully each half term to ensure the correct kit is available (e.g. boots and shin pads for football)

Lastly, please ensure ALL PE and clubs kit is clearly named as it makes it much easier to reunite children with the correct kit!

The Tuesday drop-in morning sports club achieved record numbers this week with over 30 children from Reception - Year Six being in school at 8.15am to take part in a dodgeball game! Amazing efforts from all with teamwork being very high and the interaction between the year groups at it's best.

Well done all, especially the Year 6 leaders for running such as successful session!

Tuesday 5th February - Year 5/6 High 5 Netball Tournament

Our Year 5/6 netball team had a great morning at the South Dartmoor Partnership High 5 Netball Tournament. There were 4 leagues and we came third in our league, having won one of our matches 7-0! Fantastic team spirit was demonstrated throughout all the matches. Well done to them all.

Tuesday 29th January - KS1 Aesthetics Festival

Some of our Year 2s had the opportunity to attend an aesthetics festival last Tuesday, where they were learning skills in Dance, Gymnastics, Trampolining and Yoga. The festival culminated in a whole group performance of a dance they had all learnt about superheroes. All the children had a fantastic time and it was a great experience for all.

Quadkids Gold for the Y4 Team

A huge well done to the Year 4 Quadkids Athletics team! A team of eight White Rock children competed in the Partnership finals held at KEVICC school. Every effort, of every child, in every event of the day counted towards our final points total where we finished in 1st place!

Not only did the children receive gold medals, White Rock will now represent the Dartmoor School Sport Partnership in the 2019 Devon Summer Games!  Congratulations to all involved!

SEND PE Festival

Well done to all children that took part - you were brilliant!

Tag Rugby Tournament

at Newton Abbot RFC

White Rock were represented by two teams who enjoyed a full day of competitive tag rugby involving schools from across the Dartmoor Partnership. The Year 5&6 team worked exceptionally hard all day in a tough competition ending up 6th of the 13 schools entered. Well done to all involved with this team, especially the girls who improved immensely with every game.

The Year 4 team had an excellent tournament. All group games were won comfortably putting them through to the final against Bradley Barton. An excellent game saw both team score plenty of tries, but White Rock showed more quality as a team and came away victorious at full time. Well done to this team, and to Mr. Hobson for his inspirational coaching.

Thank you to Emily and Roxy from Bay Bouncers Community Gymnastics Club who visited White Rock to teach a Gymnastics lesson to all boys in Years 3 & 4. This may lead to some of our children representing Torbay at the South West Schools Games.

The White Rock Year 6 Sports Captains enjoy a climbing session with Reach Outdoors at the Parkfield Climbing Centre.
